MATTRESS ON THE FLOOR
Alan Fletcher & Chris Hawker © copyright May 2005
Mattress started its life as one line! I was struck by the memory of student days, living in one room, clothes everywhere - dirty and clean mixed together, parties that never seem to end, lack of sleep and, of course, the sad old mattress on the floor. With Chris's crispy acoustic playing and quirky composition the song rapidly became a celebration of those student days that so many of us vividly remember. - Alan
VERSE 1
Did I cry too much
Laugh too loud
Put the wrong point of view
Hide away too long
Can I raise the stakes
Erase mistakes
Start again with you
In a grown up bed by chance
CHORUS
Cockroach stalks the bench
Seeing what's in store
Parties never end
before half past four
Please give me one nights lovin'
Don't show me the door
Another night alone
On my mattress on the floor
VERSE 2
Is my hair too long
Pants too short
Did I come on too strong
Or not at all
Can I come across
And share your sheets
You know your lovely
But I just need some sleep
CHORUS
BRIDGE
Just take a chance
Never fear
I'll disappear
This wasn't planned
I'm a desperate man
INSTRUMENTAL
BRIDGE 2
Don't get me wrong
Won't be back again
To upset your plans
CHORUS
